My Messy Topknot & Latest Curl Revelations
I have never really been excited about protective styling until I started bunning my hair again. I've been doing various hair buns, but most recently I have been enamored with this messy topknot. This carefree look has become my current everyday curly hairstyle.
My topknot isn't a perfect protective style since all of my ends are not 100% tucked away. At the same time my hair isn't loose, blowing in the wind, or rubbing up against my clothing. Even though this style isn’t perfect, it’s tension-free. I have few single strand knots as a result to wearing my hair up. My hair regimen in general could have something to do with this as well though.
I have fine/medium hair strands, so certain types of hairstyles can create unnecessary breakage for my hair. Any style where intricate clean parts are necessary, extensive combing or brushing is needed, hair is slicked back tightly, or added extensions are used (although I’ve done them) doesn't really work for my hair in the long run. I've also come to realize that stretching my curls with braid-outs and twist-outs actually isn't necessary to avoid knots when you wear your hair up either.
With this tension-free updo, I’m able to maintain the integrity of my hair without altering the natural shape of my curls.
I’ve been using only one DIY Super Soft Seamless Hair Tie (which is upcycled and zero waste) for this style with no added hair pins needed. I flip my hair upside down to gather it into a high ponytail, then wrap the hair tie around my ponytail two times. On the third time, I form a messy top knot by not pulling the remainder of my hair all the way through. I tuck a few stray curls into place and call it done.
I can wear my hair like this comfortably all day and night if I want to since no part of my scalp is being tugged at or pulled. These DIY Super Soft Seamless Hair Ties do not snag my hair or create tension on my strands. All in all this has been a win win.
The bonus of this style is I can easily wear my hair loose for a portion of the day by just fluffing out my hair.
Lastly I've finally solidified My Zero Waste Curly Hair Regimen. My new regimen uses minimal inexpensive "products", and is not at all time consuming which I LOVE. Caring for my curls is necessary for healthy hair, but I don't want to devote too much time to accomplish this anymore.
